An Intimate Milieu 

Since humans have walked on this earth we have had an intimate and visceral connection to our natural environment. The beauty of the human form and the natural beauty of the landscape are intertwined and mimicked in these images. We are given a glimpse into an intimate moment in this relationship. The soft focus of these images further veils our view and we realize that this is a seductive and private moment that we have been given the privilege to enjoy and be a part of. We do not look away but are drawn further into the image with a pure joy and delight of the moment as if it were a spiritual awakening.

Inspiration to pursue this body of work came after seeing Martha Casanave’s Kitchen Kama Sutra and coastal images. I loved her beautiful soft focused nudes and the majestic coastal landscapes and was thereby inspired to create this sensual merging of the human form with the natural landscape. These images were captured using medium format film and were printed as traditional silver gelatin prints. All of the shoots were done at either dawn or dusk to give the beautiful diffused light that I felt was necessary to embody the intimacy of these images. I also used diffusion filters when shooting to add to the veiled view that is evident in this body of work.
